Collagenous Colitis

Collagenous colitis (CC) is a disorder of the large bowel where the inner lining has a thicker layer of collagen. It causes a watery diarrhoea which can be frequent and sometimes sudden. I developed collagenous colitis after taking an NSAID (Naproxen) for an episode of severe back pain. The diarrhoea continued even after I had stopped taking Naproxen and I became virtually housebound. I do not have expertise in collagenous colitis other than what is described here.

There are many gut disorders that can produce symptoms similar to collagenous colitis. If you have new gut symptoms you should see your doctor and consider a referral to a gastroenterologist. Here are two reputable sources of information on collagenous colitis.
